Dark Spots

Fade Dark Spots & Hyperpigmentation with Expert Care

Uneven skin tone, dark spots and hyperpigmentation can leave your complexion looking dull or aged, but Imagen offers targeted, effective treatments that bring out your skin’s natural radiance.

Using a personalized blend of medical-grade skincare and advanced resurfacing treatments such as laser genesis or laser resurfacing, our specialists address the root of discoloration for clearer, brighter, more even-toned skin.

Your journey to luminous skin starts with care as unique as you are.

What Actually Causes Dark Spots

The outermost layer of your skin, the epidermis, contains melanocytes — the cells that produce pigment. When skin is exposed to UV radiation, the body responds by increasing melanin production in an attempt to limit the damage that sunlight does to the DNA inside skin cells. Over years, that protective response is what leaves behind age spots and patches of hyperpigmentation.

Cell turnover matters just as much. Healthy skin cells begin plump at the base of the epidermis and migrate upward over roughly six weeks, growing drier and thinner until they are shed. When every part of your skin turns over at the same rate, your tone stays even. When it does not, you get rough patches and dark patches instead. Sun exposure, alcohol and smoking all slow that migration, so tired cells accumulate at the surface and discoloration becomes more stubborn.

Genetics play a part too, which is why two people with similar sun histories can end up with very different complexions. None of this means you have mistreated your skin — it means pigmentation has more than one cause, and the treatment that clears it needs to match the cause.

Treatment Options for Hyperpigmentation

PRP + Microneedling

From $500

PRP delivers concentrated growth factors that stimulate cell renewal and collagen production, helping to fade hyperpigmentation and improve overall skin quality when combined with microneedling.

Chemical Peel

From $185

Chemical peels accelerate cell turnover by removing the outer layer of skin, reducing the appearance of age spots and evening out skin tone.

Fractional Laser Resurfacing

From $750

Fractional laser targets pigmented skin cells in precise columns, triggering a healing response that replaces discolored tissue with fresh, evenly toned skin.

Age spots and sunspots respond especially well to this approach. The laser targets pigmented areas directly, breaking down dark spots without harming the surrounding tissue, and over a series of sessions the overall complexion becomes clearer and more uniform in color. For milder concerns such as fine lines and minor pigmentation problems, a non-ablative setting promotes collagen production with minimal injury to the top layer of skin. Individual results vary.

Laser Genesis

From $250

Laser Genesis uses gentle thermal energy to reduce redness and even out pigmentation, promoting a clearer, more luminous complexion over a series of treatments.

Matching Treatment to Your Skin Tone

Your skin type and tone play a significant role in selecting the right procedure. Light-based therapies vary in intensity, and some are not suitable for darker skin tones because of the risk of pigmentary changes — either hyperpigmentation (darkening of the skin) or hypopigmentation (lightening of the skin). Individuals prone to keloid formation face similar cautions, since these complications can be more distressing than the original concern being treated.

That is why treatment at Imagen begins with a skin evaluation rather than a menu. If laser energy carries added risk for your skin type, your plan can lean on the other approaches on this page — chemical peels, PRP with microneedling or a pharmaceutical-grade home-care routine — selected around your tone and skin history rather than the other way around.

Keeping Dark Spots From Coming Back

Clearing existing pigmentation is only half the work. Because sun exposure is what drives melanin production in the first place, sunscreen is the single most important thing you can do to protect the result you have paid for. Use an SPF of at least 30 every day, not only in summer, and reapply it when you are going to be outdoors.

Sun protection matters most in the weeks after a resurfacing treatment. Newly treated skin is highly sensitive to UV rays, and unprotected exposure can lead to fresh hyperpigmentation on exactly the areas you just cleared. A broad-spectrum sunscreen of at least SPF 30, gentle cleansers that do not irritate treated areas, and hydrating serums with hyaluronic acid all help protect the result while skin heals.

Do not stop at your face. The neck, chest and backs of the hands are exposed just as constantly and are often the first places to show sun damage — patients are frequently surprised that these areas age ahead of the face. Regular exfoliation helps keep skin cells turning over on schedule and tone even, and scheduled maintenance treatments such as periodic peels or laser sessions keep pigmentation from re-establishing itself.

At your consultation we will look at where your pigmentation sits in the skin, how your skin responds to treatment and what your routine looks like at home, then build a plan around that rather than around a single product. If you want a grounding in how skin structure and daily care fit together, our guide to skin composition and general care is a good place to start. Individual results vary.
