Sculptra Collagen Stimulation
Unlike hyaluronic acid gels, Sculptra is a collagen stimulator made from Poly-L-Lactic Acid. Rather than adding volume directly, it prompts the body to rebuild its own collagen over roughly three months. Most patients see results lasting about two years, and because volume comes from the body’s own collagen rather than injected gel, the cost per unit of volume tends to be lower than traditional fillers.
Juvéderm & Restylane Fillers
Fillers are a non-surgical method for restoring or adding volume to your face, which can help increase the size and shape of the lips, and improve fine lines and wrinkles. For lips, the best options are soft, hyaluronic acid fillers, which give augmentation but still feel soft and natural. Hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally found in the skin. It helps maintain skin moisture by attracting water. In addition to hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm and Restylane, Imagen also offers Sculptra and Fat Transfer for volume restoration.
Fat Transfer for Lasting Volume
At our Omaha med spa, we offer an excellent and cost-effective solution, the fat transfer. This procedure provides substantial volume replacement using your body’s own fat, resulting in essentially permanent results. Notably, there’s no risk of allergic reactions or rejection, as the fat is sourced from your own body. Fat transfer is highly effective in various filler applications, except for fine lines and wrinkles, where smoother gels tend to yield superior results in our experience.
How Hyaluronic Acid Fillers Work
Hyaluronic acid attracts and holds water. Injected beneath the skin’s surface, a hyaluronic acid filler adds volume exactly where it is needed and hydrates the tissue from within, an internal moisturizing effect that surface creams cannot reach. The gel occupies space from the moment it is placed, so results are immediate. That makes it easy to see whether an area needs more filler and to keep augmentation even.
These fillers are also reversible. An enzyme called hyaluronidase can dissolve them within hours to days if you are unhappy with the result, which adds a layer of safety and control. Within the hyaluronic acid family, thicker volumizing gels are used to build structure in areas like the cheekbones, while softer gels suit the lips and fine lines, where they give augmentation that still feels natural. If you are weighing the options, our guide to which filler to choose breaks the categories down.
What a Filler Appointment Involves
Before injections begin, a numbing cream is applied so the treatment stays comfortable. The injection sites are then marked on the face; these marks guide precision and are planned around the specific areas needing volume or correction. The injections themselves are done with fine needles and the process typically takes under an hour, depending on the area treated and the amount of filler needed. Afterwards, light massage may be applied to distribute the product evenly within the tissue. You can read a fuller walk-through in our post on what the injection process is like.
How Long Filler Results Last
Most hyaluronic acid fillers last between six and eighteen months. The duration depends on the specific product used, the area treated, and individual metabolism. Because the effects are temporary, you are never locked into an outcome, and periodic touch-ups maintain the look as natural aging continues. Individual results vary. For a deeper look at one product family, see our post on Restylane for facial rejuvenation.
Side Effects and Aftercare
The most common side effects are redness, swelling, and bruising at the injection site, and these usually resolve within a few days. Applying ice wrapped in a cloth, for about fifteen minutes at a time during the first day, helps reduce swelling. Strenuous exercise should be avoided for at least twenty-four hours, since activities that increase blood flow to the face can worsen swelling or bruising. For lip treatments specifically, our lip filler aftercare guide covers the details, and our post on fillers for smile lines looks at one of the most common treatment areas.
Who Fillers Suit and Who They Do Not
Fillers are the right tool when there is a specific crease, fold, or contour to correct: nasolabial folds, thinning lips, or a cheek that needs definition. They are not the right tool for every volume concern. If the change you see is a broad, gradual deflation across the whole face rather than one line or hollow, collagen stimulation addresses that pattern better than filling individual spots. And if you want a lasting, one-time change rather than a treatment you maintain, a fat transfer offers essentially permanent, larger-volume replacement using your own tissue, though smooth gels still outperform fat on fine lines and wrinkles. If you are not sure which pattern describes your concern, start with our facial volume loss page.
Dermal Fillers or Sculptra: Immediate Replacement Versus Gradual Regeneration
The clearest way to choose between the two is by mechanism. A dermal filler occupies space from the moment it is placed, so it corrects a specific crease or contour on the day of treatment. Sculptra does not fill at all; it stimulates your body’s own collagen production, rebuilding volume broadly over about three months and lasting around two years for most patients.
Neither is a substitute for the other. A filler cannot regenerate collagen across the face, and Sculptra cannot deliver a same-day correction to one line. Where both a targeted crease and overall deflation exist, the two are complementary. Our Sculptra page covers the collagen-stimulation side in full.
