Fighting your FUPA? Short for “Fatty Upper Pubic Area,” FUPA is the area of fat located above the pubic bone and below the abdomen. FUPA liposuction, also known as mons pubis liposuction, is a surgical procedure that targets this specific area to remove excess fat and improve the contour of the lower abdomen. This procedure is performed with SmartLipo® Triplex® laser liposuction and Renuvion® skin tightening to reduce the appearance of a bulging FUPA with minimal downtime and no large incisions. Our patients often pair it with Lipo 360 to achieve desired body sculpting goals.

What Causes a FUPA
The upper pubic area is one of the places the body is most willing to store fat and least willing to give it back. Genetics decide a great deal of it: some people simply deposit fat there before anywhere else, which is why the area can stay stubborn through disciplined dieting and consistent training. Pregnancy, significant weight change and the loss of skin elasticity that comes with age all add to it.
It presents differently between men and women. In men it tends to read as a distinct bulge low on the abdomen. In women it more often reads as an overhang, and it is most commonly noticed after pregnancy or after a large change in weight. In both cases the complaint is usually the same one: it shows through clothing that otherwise fits.
How the Procedure Works
FUPA liposuction is done through small puncture points rather than a long incision, which is why it leaves so little behind to see. The SmartLipo Triplex laser is used to liquefy the fat before it is removed, so the fat is drawn out rather than dug out, and the surrounding tissue is disturbed far less than older techniques required. Renuvion skin tightening is used alongside it where the skin needs help retracting over the new contour.
Because the pubic mound sits directly against the lower abdomen, treating it in isolation can leave a visible step between the two. That is the reason many patients treat the FUPA together with the lower abdomen or as part of a fuller circumferential treatment. Whether that is worth doing in your case is a contour question, and it is answered in the consultation, not in advance. Individual results vary.
Recovery
Walking is encouraged straight away, because movement helps circulation and helps the swelling settle. A compression garment is worn around the clock for the first two weeks; it is doing real work, holding the tissue where it is meant to settle and keeping swelling down. Most patients describe the discomfort as closer to heavy post-workout soreness than to pain, alongside some swelling and bruising.
Light daily activity generally resumes within days. Strenuous exercise waits several weeks. Our physicians have written a fuller account of what the weeks afterwards actually feel like in FUPA liposuction: what to expect, and a broader piece on FUPA and abdominal fat removal.
What the Price Includes
Imagen quotes FUPA liposuction as an all-inclusive figure rather than a headline number with additions bolted on afterwards. That figure covers pre-operative labs, the facility fee, your compression garment, post-operative supplies and your follow-up visits. Optional extras, such as a second compression garment, are the exceptions and they are identified as extras up front. Current pricing and financing options are on our cost page.
